Anyone studying that art in Blacksburg, VA area?

Postby Edwin Clayton » Sun Jun 06, 2010 9:57 am

Been trying for a while to find a group to study the sword with in the area of Blacksburg, VA, but to no avail. I would figure with Virginia Tech next door, there would be at least some people interested, but the only 'fencing' group at Tech focuses only on the "olympic sport of fencing" (their words).

I see that ARMA has groups in VA beach and NoVA, but those are both four-hour drives away.

Well, it has to start somewhere. There is actually a lot that you can do by yourself, and while the other groups aren't close enough for regular visits you could visit them to get started, and just do group activities every once and a while.

greetings,

I lead a small study group in Roanoke (just about 25-30 minutes away) that meets on Sunday evenings from 5-7. Our group is a part of the Roanoke Sword Guilde which I am one of the co-founders.

here is a link to a story about us in the Roanoke Times from March

we are not a ARMA affiliated group but I am a member of the HEMA Alliance organization.

Send me an email if you are interested in our study group or would like more info.

We focus on un-armoured German long-sword at present .

cheers,

Bill Goodwin
