I've been reading a lot lately and currently reading several of the "Knight" series. In "A Knight and his weapons", there are passages where hand and a half swords are referred to as 'heavy' and had the view that the sword was used to block edge on edge. I think there was a reference to jumping above sword strokes in sword and shield combat in response to feints and leg strikes. I have never seen anything like that outside of a movie.
I am NOT mocking Mr. Oakeshott by any means, he has done fantastic work. Also, in the book review section on this website, there is a comment alluding to those book passages in the book's description. I just thought it was very interesting to see those specific issues in one of his books and is a nice reminder to read everything with a careful eye.
Oh, and for what it is worth I received my ARMA membership acceptance email today.
