New York Study Group

Postby Guest » Mon Sep 22, 2003 9:43 am

I had the pleasure of training with Ray Brunk and his NY Study Group this weekend. I was extremely impressed. This group trains in a safe, but martially sound manner, and is working on solid fundamentals, including some really cool two person drills based on the LIndholm book.

Seeing this group run has convinced me that I can successfully organize a study group here in Connecticut (something that I have been hesitant about).

Thanks to Ray, John, and the other members of the group for an inspirational experience!

Good to hear Ron <img src="http://www.thearma.org/forum/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" />

It just goes to show the kind of quality members we have. And to think, those guys are fairly new at this.

You can do it too, it just takes a lot of persistance and dedication. I've had people come and go but refuse to let it stop me. The main thing is to try and keep it interesting.

Good luck,
Gary

Glad to hear it Ron, it's always a good thing when different groups come together to train and share info. I think many of us have been reluctant to start study groups or function as "instructors" for our local groups but frankly, this is how it has to be. Someone has to provide leadership and management, this is just a fact of group dynamics. Also, although I feel much more confident leading training sessions or introducing new folks to the basics than I did a couple of yeras ago, I still learn from the other study group members every week. As JC often says, we are all students. Good luck!

Ron,
Thanks for the kind words. It was a pleasure having you. I would also like to thank you for the help you gave us with interpretation. You or any members are always welcome.
We are still small but working our area diligently, looking for new members. I hope to request for provisional study group status soon.
We are very new to WMA but hope to one day be seen as the old timers...lol
On a serious note, we would welcome any and all input from any members (especially study group leaders) with suggestions and guidance for our training. I am leading our pack to the best of my ability, but would appreciate any help offered as I myself am so new.
Looking forward to crossing swords again,
Ray

Ray, you and I are in the same boat as new Study Group leaders. Everyone, please post your advice on the forum! I'd love to know what people are working on and how they are doing it.

Stewart,
Thanks for the advice, we will take it to heart. Please explain tipprogressions if you don't mind. I have been writing up a session plan each week to use as a guideline. I have tried to break up the training into sections as not to overload or stray. If you or anyone would like to look at, and critique my plan, i could email it for review.
We have been putting in 3-4 hour sessions on the weekend and are discussing adding a second day.
After the event I took up some extra cardio and cleaned up my diet. I've lost about 30 lbs to help with my speed and response time. Now the body is ready , I guess it's time for some learning,
Thanks again,
Ray
