Seminar in Munich

Postby Hans Heim » Thu Jul 08, 2004 8:16 am

Hello together, I am very happy that I can make this announcement:

Ochs was able to engage the Linacre School of Defence for a seminar in Munich, on 31.07. – 01.08.2004.

This fencing school from Oxford, UK concentrates on the practice of historical English and British martial arts of the late 17th to the early 19th centuries, including both armed and unarmed techniques.

focal points and therefore topics of the seminar are smallsword, backsword, pugilism and wrestling.

We had the chance to meet „LSD“ at the HEMAC-events in Dijon and were impressed by their competence and their confident way of teaching. Even or maybe especially persons unfamiliar with the English System got the chance for highly interesting insights.

Consolidated knowledge and the unique english gentlemanly way are guarantors for an informative and enjoyable workshop. Not to mention the opportunity to see there’s more than just german or italian school!

The Munich seminar is meant to be an introduction to the English System, and all are welcome, experienced or inexperienced

Program:

Part 1
An introduction to the smallsword according to Sir William Hope, 1707.
This would introduce students to a weapon designed purely for thrusting, using simple techniques that they can actually use in a duel.
Part 2
An introduction to the backsword according to Silver 1599, and Wylde 1711
Students will build upon what they know of the smallsword, and apply similar principles to the use of the broad/backsword.
Part 3
An introduction to pugilism and wrestling. Students will learn the basis of English boxing of the late 18th Century. The Instructors will demonstrate that pugilism relies on similar principles to swordsmanship. Students will be introduced to simple grapples and throws.
Part 4
Returning to the smallsword and backsword, the School of Linacre will show how the unarmed arts learned in the previous sessions can be applied to duels with weapons.
