Sully what you say is not impossible, Irish people came in Italy of North early in the medieval times because we were not Christian and when soldiers came and asked us to be such and pay taxes we uasually answered with an axe betwen the eyes So Irish monks and common people came to accomplish the mission to bring the right religion in our savage land, we were more friendly to them than to others, because they did not mention taxes among other things and because they were Celtics as we were.
I heard that many surnames starting with De' might have an Irish origin, being the modification of Irish ones (so De' Liberi...), but it's just a theory

"Also, if I remember there is a work on Fiore from the 1800s, name escapes me, I am not home to check my notes. I think the reference is in Bascetta or in Zanutto."

Yes, is it by B.Croce? I have looked for it but failed to find it in any of the main Italian collections.. But maybe it's there somewhere. I think there was also something earlier about Fiore as well.

"because they were Celtics as we were."

Carlo, no you weren't Celts - you were Longobards (and a few Visigoths and Ostrogoths). From southern Germany, and often buried with fighting axes. The Longobards came into northern Italy in the 5-6thC's, became the dominant ruling class (just as the Franks in France), but obviously mixed with the native Latin population.
As for Fiore being of Irish origin... Lord save us Though he does use a couple of clubs which look exactly like shelalagh!

Matt, in the North of Italy there was no native Latin population, that's a fake of our old historians!! While it's true that we mixed up with Germans we were Celts, there were more than one Celtic population in N. I., were I live there were the Insubri, the Romans never managed to conquer the whole N. I. region, they committed atrocities though... Often small military edificia were all the Romans had in a given region, this of course for them meant it was a Roman region, but it was not, they were barely tolerated, do not believe to Latin or old Italian Historians, they lie... I mean we used iron long slashing swords not gladiums, and eventually adopted the scramasax when Germans came here.
