Greetings, Jacob, Andy, and other friends,
Just wanted to introduce myself briefly. Thanks to a year-long deployment with Jake and a couple very productive and enjoyable sessions with Jake and the MSU chapter, I'm very happy to say that I am, for the moment, the newest potential ARMA member. I say potential because the application is still in the mail and subject to review.
I will soon be assigned to Fort Bragg, in Fayetteville, NC, with the 18th Airborne Corps G2, then on to dry and dusty points east for an undetermined length of time. I have served in the Army fourteen years. I completed a BA in history before enlisting and a MA in American military history after enlisting. I have a few book reviews and encyclopedia articles on American military history topics published. While in college I studied Okinawan Issinryu and full-contact Muay Thai kickboxing. I've gone through the Army Combatives course. When Jake and I aren't out making the world safe for democracy, I raise two boys and three dogs with my wife, Keri, who is a children's librarian.
As an ARMA member, I anticipate learning more about our own history and culture through study of the practice and theory of swordcraft and of medieval and Renaissance European history. I expect to develop my physical and mental acuity and look forward to passing my training on to future students.
I'm also looking for training partners in the eastern NC area, so if you're anywhere around Fayetteville, Hope Mills, or Raleigh-Durham, please send me a note so we can get together.
Thank you. I look forward to following the discussions and to joining in them intelligently.
Kevin Gould
