Greetings from Fort Bragg

Postby Kevin Gould » Tue Feb 06, 2007 2:50 pm

Greetings, Jacob, Andy, and other friends,

Just wanted to introduce myself briefly. Thanks to a year-long deployment with Jake and a couple very productive and enjoyable sessions with Jake and the MSU chapter, I'm very happy to say that I am, for the moment, the newest potential ARMA member. I say potential because the application is still in the mail and subject to review.

I will soon be assigned to Fort Bragg, in Fayetteville, NC, with the 18th Airborne Corps G2, then on to dry and dusty points east for an undetermined length of time. I have served in the Army fourteen years. I completed a BA in history before enlisting and a MA in American military history after enlisting. I have a few book reviews and encyclopedia articles on American military history topics published. While in college I studied Okinawan Issinryu and full-contact Muay Thai kickboxing. I've gone through the Army Combatives course. When Jake and I aren't out making the world safe for democracy, I raise two boys and three dogs with my wife, Keri, who is a children's librarian.

As an ARMA member, I anticipate learning more about our own history and culture through study of the practice and theory of swordcraft and of medieval and Renaissance European history. I expect to develop my physical and mental acuity and look forward to passing my training on to future students.

I'm also looking for training partners in the eastern NC area, so if you're anywhere around Fayetteville, Hope Mills, or Raleigh-Durham, please send me a note so we can get together.

Thank you. I look forward to following the discussions and to joining in them intelligently.

I think there is a new member in Greenville as well as a family in Raleigh. Too bad I just moved away from the area this past summer.

You might be able to make a roadtrip every once in a while up to the VA Beach study group.

I think you're really going to enjoy ARMA, and perhaps I'll see you at an event sometime.

ARMA Tullahoma

Postby Denise Smith » Sun Feb 11, 2007 12:52 pm

ARMA Tullahoma will bring 6 confirmed as of tonight, awaiting confirmation from two others. This is for the Saturday Longsword class only.
We have the waiver from Andy. Do we pay ahead in part or whole or bring it with us?
Also if John is going to be there can I pay my renewal there or would he prefer I do it on line ahead of time with PayPal?

I'll speak up for Andy at the moment. He'll correct me if I'm off.

Please pay ahead to Andy's contact information, above. Hosting one of these is expensive, and without pre-payment it is impossible to afford necessary expenses.

I don't see any reason why bringing your membership check to the event, however, would be any problem at all.

I can't wait to see you guys there!

Thanks Jake.

Thats right. I would really appreciate it if you payed ahead. Of course we also allow for people to pay at the door for people who may be last minute. But if you know your going to be comeing, paying a head of time makes things run smother. I will PM you my contact info.

-Andy
