We've had a cumulative 3 broken fingers in our ogden study group when sparring with the longsword, and those were the old style padded wasters.

Well Casper, you guys take the record

We've had many bumps and bruises but nothing that serious. My study partner Mike Eging took a shot to the chest with the butt end of a padded spear and we thought he might have cracked a rib at first. It turns out is was bruises but it hurt for a while. I've had a bruised bone in my thumb that hurt for months.

Before I blew a hernia which has taken me out of action, I started finding that voiding and targeting my opponents hands when they telegraphed attacks was often very effective. At least in our study group at the time. Not sure how technically valid the approach was/is, but I liked it.

I find when I'm tired I tend to get sloppy about where my hands are.

That's how I had the tip bone of my right ring finger shattered last year. I was way too tired and my body just could not keep up with my brain. The stupid thing was that I knew I was really tired.

Push yourself for improvement... but know and heed your limits.
