Paul Kirchner's book on dueling makes clear that those who came before us understood very clearly the difference between figthing in the salon and in the field.

It's possible, but back then these arts were still very much in use, therefore far less likely to have people who could even get away with only focusing on a sport derivative.

As far as Jousters go I know that the sporting event itself fell out of favor with the kings/queens and they attempted to ban the games many times. These rulers complained that the injuries sustained by their knights kept them from the battlefield and also incited riots and numerous fights amongst the participants that would occasionally end in deaths.

I know it is not quite along the same lines but the ideal is the same, that of, save yourself for the real fight and stop, "playing around" kind of attitude. It was also viewed by some as a huge waste of resources and slightly rebelious to authority.

This is according to a book I am currently reading called, " Daily life in Medieval Times by Frances & Joseph Gies" It is published by Barnes and Noble, and is quite a fun read- Aaron

Hmmmm

It might be interesting to do a "tournement" among ourselve's like at an international gathering or NTP, something just to kind of test our training and have fun, we could put on the More padded MMA type glove's first "killing blow"(determined by a Fechtmeister) or submission/knockout anything goes type of thing.

I have seen an article about a french knight who traveled around and just had tournement's and fought all comer's and i saw something about two village's who did something similar and then had a big party no hard feeling's, Any Doctor's in the house?
