Alabama mini-gathering

Postby Jay Vail » Sun Jul 24, 2005 10:00 am

Saturday, Sam and I had a training session in Dothan, AL, with J Hansen, formerly of the Utah study group and now living in Birmingham, AL. I was curious about what the Utah guys have been doing and JH was lonely, having no one to play swords with in Birmingham since he moved.

JH’s skill level was impressive. He showed us several little tricks which were cool and helpful. If he is any indication, the Utah guys are formidable and technically have a lot to offer the rest of us in their sword interpretations.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have as much time together as we had hoped for. It was really hot, even in the shade, and I took a hard shot to the ribs during a drill, sustaining a minor injury that I strained during freeplay, and was unable to continue, so we only had about two hours together. Not much a reward for JH’s three-hour drive down from Birmingham, I’m sad to say, and I apologize again, JH. I hope you can make the next Central Florida gathering, which we’re planning for December.

Hey Jay

I know how that injury thing is on a little get together it is good training though.

It is so nice though to get together with other ARMA folk's you don't know or see except on the forum, I find know matter what happen's it is still good how just in a short period of time working with someone you normaly don't can make you realize alot of new thing's, it is very educational all the way around even just the exchange of idea's and small demo's of theories get's you going in new direction's of thinking.

And that is why we are here isn't it, to exchange idea's and learn all we can, and have some fun while we do it.

Hope you guy's had fun.

That's quite an understatement, to say the least. The Provo Symposium last March was truly humbling. I think they gave me my GFS out of sheer pity .

And Jeff is a great guy.

No problem Jay. It was still a good training session, if shorter than it might have been. Injuries happen, it's part of the game. I'm just glad it wasn't me that hurt you. Feel better.

Nah, those Provo guys are all wusses. I'll take 'em all, blindfolded.

LOL.

Good to hear you're still rockin', Jeff. You gonna come up to Campbell and visit me sometime?

After that comment, it sounds like you've been hit in the head enough already. But I'd still be willing to look you up. where is (Fort?) Campbell?

Just past Nashville, on the KY/TN border, on I-24.

That's an open invitation to *anyone* to train, BTW.
