ARMA Knoxville videos

Postby david welch » Sun Jul 31, 2005 11:25 pm

We met up today and had a pretty good time.

None of us had fought for a couple of months due to "real life" stuff, and it felt great to get back at it!

This was also the first time we had used all our new stuff together, and we are still trying to get a feel for what we can do with it.

Here are a couple of sword bouts:
Fencing with featherswords

And a couple of dagger drills:

Thanks Bill, I had a ball!

Nice clips. I liked the use of the daggers as backup weapons, they were effectively brought into play a couple of times. Those featherswords look like very nice sparring weapons. Were you striking full speed? Your strikes seemed a bit slow. I was also interested in what kind of protective gear you were wearing, including helmets and anything you might have on to protect your legs.

Thanks for posting!

We were using a light Gambeson, gloves, and a goalie helmet with small screen wire zip tied to the front. No we were not striking full speed or intent. But it was loads of fun.

I like the FIST helmets we were using in the dagger seq. They really are a change from not using the head as a target, that way you can give your training partner a good shot or vise-versa and not do any real damage(but it will still ring your bell good ).
Thanks, Bill

Hello, Jeanry!

Yeah, we weren't very fast. We had been practicing for what seemed like a long time before we decided to start videoing at the end. I don't know about Bill, but by then, I could barely hold my arms over my head (and that is pretty obvious on tape. I guess what form I have falls apart when I am tired). As a matter of fact, we were going to do one more dagger play... but we couldn't.

I am glad too, because even though we were striking slow... today I found I am covered in lemon sized bruses.

Also, we were only wearing sweats for leg protection. We were wearing leather moccasin type shoes so we were not really worried about it. If we had been wearing street shoes or tennis shoes with a hard edge we would have worn baseball catcher shin guards.
