Gambeson/Arming Doublet

Postby Dustin Reagan » Mon Aug 22, 2005 4:00 pm

Anyone know of a manufacturer of high-quality (prefereably historically accurate -- 13th to 15th cent) gambeson or arming doublet?

Thanks!

I can't personally attest to the historical accuracy of this (not an expert in historical armour), but Museum Replicas Limited is known for fairly accurate representations of historical armor. You might not find what you're looking for, but it's a thought. Hopefully someone else can back-up this info or offer a better alternative.

Thanks for the recommendation!

I guess I'd like to add a stipulation, though:

It would be best if you've used the gambeson yourself in WMA activities, or have at least seen it/spoken with someone who has used it in WMA activities.

Thanks!

try www.revival.us

they have some nice gambesons, for a good arming doublet try

historic enterprises

some of the best arming coats, gambesons, and padded jacks appear to be made in Europe for the reneactors at this time. For further research, I would reccomend going to

arador

and checking out the discussion forums there under fabric armour and arming garments..

hope this helps.

Thanks for the link Allen, I couldn't remember his web page off the top of my head, but Matuls has had great reviews on their arming clothes.
