No I haven´t heard anything and I get very worried. Had a lot of mail contact with him and now it is just silent. From what we get on TV here in Europe is is almost civil war in New Orleans right now. Is this true??

Please if somebody hear anything from Jeanry, give him my regards and please tell me if he is all right.

Hardly. Just a few hundred thugs & hoodlums left looting.

Jeanry likely got out days ago.

yes jeanry lived downtown right close to the french quarter as i recall. We visited his house when we attended southern knights.

He can handle himself fine, take more than some flooding and looting to slow him down.

Hopefully we wll hear something soon.

Oh my, what's in the news is horrible. I am really happy that he escaped that. Thank God!

This is from an email I got from Jeanry today, he wanted me to give y'all a heads up.

****************************************
Hi, this is Jeanry

I'm ok. To save time I'm sending the same form letter to everybody, but trust
me, you are all in my heart in a very individual way. We have to hurry because
we have to get oil and gas for the generator and be back before the curfew. I
am in the LSU library using their computer in the wonderful air conditioning.

We (Marjorie our three cats and I) are staying in Abita Springs in Marjories
parents fortress-like ranch house. We were very lucky, several huge trees
snapped but missed the house. I'm spending most of the day clearing brush and
chainsawing logs. All night lying on the marble floor trying to sleep in the
heat, listening to the radio in the darkness. The stars are spectacular.

We have intermittent water and electricity (when the generator is on) but only
twice a day for a little while because we have to conserve gasoline. It's very
trying. Only cold showers! When I see the people in New Orleans on the
expressways and the convention center I realise how good we have it though.

The Abita area is wrecked, every street is choked with shattered trees and
snapped light poles, with power lines snaking like giant serpents through the
bones of dinosaurs. They have been going through clearing holes with chainsaws
and bulldozers. I am proud of these men and women who are working so hard to
fix everything.

I am also very disgusted with the grandstanding self congratulatory politicians,
other than Mayor Ray Nagin who I think is trying his best and speaks honestly.
I can't believe they slowly let my home town drown. I cant believe it has been
5 days and they still aren't pumping the water out. This is the country that
went to the moon? I thought fixing levees and pumping water was something they
have known how to do since the Dutch reclaimed Holland from the sea.

We are ok though. There has been reports of looters, one was supposedly shot in
Abita Springs last night. But I have my shotgun (and my swords!) Marjorie and
the 3 cats and I are ok. Getting along ok with her folks too so far. Her
brother and his family (wife, two kids, 4 cats) were here but left for New York
city today.

I gather there is at least a foot of water inside my house in New Orleans and
it's probably completely looted. I hope to possibly recover what can be got.
If we can get back into town in the next month or so, Earl has offered to let us
use one of his places in the Quarter which was spared (though might be looted)
to live in while we try to sort out what will be done with our home. If we
can't get back to New Orleans after several weeks we may go and travel for a
while and visit some friends around the country.

For now we are ok in Abita. Everyone should be pleased I'm definately losing
weight dragging logs and brush around in the 96 degree heat. I miss you all,
you are in my thoughts in this very lonely time.

Jeanry

Thank's for sharing that with us, Jake. Good to here that Jeanry is ok. Loved the fact that he had "my shotgun (and my swords!)"

Glad to know that you and your family are OK.

The scenes around New Orleans are almost beyond belief.

As you all know, Jeanry Chandler lived, or lived, in New Orleans. Has anyone heard from him since the hurricane?

The tragedy of Katrina here is truly unprecedented.

I'm glad the ever jovial Jeanry is safe. I hope his loss is small.

My in-laws’ Gulf Coast town of Longbeach MISS. was all but destroyed. Their home was flooded and caved in, as did those of two of my brother in-laws. We additionally have three members near there in our new Gulfport Study Group: Chris Crittendon, Carl Kenan, and Matt Troub, who we still cannot reach. Also, my wife is from New Orleans herself and grew up there. So the loss is quite personal.

No city in America, by the way, has a greater history of fencing than New Orleans. The French Quarter with its parks, antique shops, pubs, and more all reflect the fact that at one time in the 1830s it was home to more duels and duelists than any city in Europe. The city is a favorite event location of the ARMA and will be again.

We ask everyone please donate to your local Red Cross relief effort.
Thanks.

Hey, everyone!

I've wanted to get online, but this has been my first chance since the hurricane. I've been rather worried for the guys in NO.

As some of you are aware, I travel a bit due to my line of work. I met arma working in Knoxville, stayed at Jeanry's while working this spring by NO. I'm currently near Vicksburg Ms. I'd be more than happy to help any of you on my days off with the heavy work cleaning up.

PM me, we can hash out the details.

I hope that I'm not out of line addressing this issue here!!! If so, then I beg your forgiveness in advance!

We intentionally live off of the grid. While I'm no where near an expert on electricity, I am somewhat experienced.

If you will charge up a 12 volt deep cycle/RV/ marine battery (this can be done by replacing it with your car battery while driving to town, as well as by a charger) then hooking up an inverter which will change your 12 volt DC to 110 AC then you may at least have lights etc. Use the compact floresent light bulbs, as incandescent's use tooo much energy!

The bigger the inverter the better. The VERY LEAST that I would use would be 750 watt continuous/ 1500 watt surge. You can pick one up from wal-mart for about $70.

I know that this can't devolve into a thread, but as I'm currently working so close, I'm aware of the need. I hope that it helps.

If anyone wants more info, you're welcome to PM me!
