His explaination seems well-reasoned enough.I'm glad to hear that all will be well for him(and the other two injuried parties he comments on).Once again, safety equipment is cheap in cost yet priceless in value.I urge my fellow scholars to keep that in mind.

His comments on being careful of training partners is very important. Some people don't have the proper attitude. This stuff is not about winning, its about learning, and assisting your fellow students to learn as well. We go over the grappling manuals quite a bit here, but it is only the 3 of us die-hards that started the club here that do it, for various reasons. For one we trust in each others level of control, and in our non-competitive attitude. We simply do not feel safe showing grappling or many other types of techniques to new-comers, and wouldn't think of showing a student grappling until they have been with us at least a year, and can show proper control and discipline to not injure others. I think this attitude, based with Shane's comments on the need for proper safety equipment are something everyone should take to heart. Being a lethal fighting art it is inherintely dangerous, and yes accidents will happen, but it's everyone's responsibility to make sure they minimize the possibility of accidents as much as possible. I'm glad to hear of Mr. Mele's continuiing recovery, and hope we can all learn a lesson from it.
