Rush in *after* the blow. Using a dagger against a sword is all about very serious Vor or a clean Nachreisen.

Rush in after, and hope he doesn't know how to twitch properly.

Rush in *after* the blow.

So you have to dodge the blow (as the swordsman wouldn't make the blow if he weren't in range) and then run in? I guess I can see that, though I doubt I could pull it off.

As I said, I need to practice more.

It takes some individual celerity, to be sure, but it's certainly achievable. Even more than speed is timing, which can be learned through a number of drills. Spend time fighting unarmed against a longsword and see what it does to your speed overall. Big calves and thighs don't hurt, either.

As someone extremely new to WMA, I can't say this with any real authority, but I can see how a dagger fighter would pull off that dodge. It would require a very explosive sidestep or front-side step, coupled straight into a charge. I see that move quite often on the football field, and it immediately came to mind.
