Hockey Gloves

I would like to buy a pair of hockey gloves to use for sparring. However, living in Mobile, AL, I can't just go down to the local sports equipment store and try on a pair. So, I will have to order them online.

Now, the sizes are listed as 13", 14", and 15". What does this measurement mean? Is that the distance from the tip of the glove fingers to the cuff?

Honestly, I can't stand hockey gloves. It is impossible for me to switch edges while wearing them, and limits what techniques I can use.

You don't want hockey gloves. You want these riot gloves both Aaron Pynenberg and I had them in Texas. After wearing them in class today my hands are nice and unbusted despite being thumped at by a large fellow.

Lacrosse gloves work alright too if you can find those. A bit less bulky than hockey gloves, though not ideal, but the protection is fairly good and I can still do a decent florysh. They have slightly more padding than Aaron's riot gloves, but don't have the attached forearm padding. You can get football pads for that, though.

I've used lacrosse gloves for years with no real articulation problems. Lately My group has been using the Revival Clothing light sparring gloves. These do not provide the same protection but are ideal for light steel drills and sparring.

I also use those light sparring gloves. They are a good compromise between protection and dexterity imo.

I bought a pair of the riot gloves. I'll let y'all know how they work. I looked at the light sparring gloves, and they look great. But as a beginner, I figured I would need the extra protection, and I have absolutely no finesse that could be compromised by the extra padding. Also, as a surgeon, I can't afford to have a broken finger.

As a Police Officer I can agree with the "no broken Fingers" part, I need that trigger finger to make my living- I am going to purchase some plastic guantlets they make for SCA fighting as well, I will wear them with the riot gloves. They are cheap and look pretty flexible. They give you that extra hardshell protection you may need. The riot gloves are OK but no doubts they will not save you from a broken finger like good technique will. Look up plastic sca armor for some dealers- Aaron Pynenberg
