Reminder of Forum Rules

Postby Gene Tausk » Sun Oct 09, 2005 1:25 pm

Users of the ARMA forum:

Every so often a post needs to be made reminding users of the ARMA forums just what is the purpose of the forums. I guess now is as good a time as any to do so again.

As our Forum Rules clearly state, the ARMA forum is for the discussion of Western historical fighting arts. As a secondary use, the forums are also used to discuss ARMA related activiies & events. Since ARMA hosts this forum, at our own expense, this secondary use of the forum is to be expected.

We have three separate forums: this main board, for general topics, our Unarmed forum, which is self-explanatory, and our Research and Reading forum, which is also self-explanatory. With these three forums, it is unlikely that we will run out of anything to talk about anytime soon.

ARMA forums are not to be used to discuss Asian martial arts except for comparison purposes to historical European fighting arts. ARMA forums are not meant to be used for discussing the activities of other clubs or organizations. ARMA forums are not for baiting, cheerleading, trolling, flaming or any other of the nastiness that seems to infect the world of the 'net. We are here to discuss historical European fighting arts and specifically, ARMA's efforts and activities. We are boring that way.

Once again: the forums are for the stated purposes only: historical European fighting arts and ARMA related studies. End of discussion. If a person cannot follow these rules, please do not post on our forums. There are unmoderated historical European fighting arts forums where the above-mentioned immature activity can go on. There are moderated historical European fighting arts forums where the moderators encourage such behavior (why is beyond me but, hey, whatever floats your boat...). Anyone wishing to engage in these childish antics is more than welcome to seek out these other forums.

The creators of this forum, members of ARMA and 99% of the users of this forum understand and accept these simple rules. We find the discussion of historical European fighitng arts to be fascinating endeavors which are the source of endless debate. Sometimes this debate gets very heated, but on-topic debates are always welcome. Debate and the open discussion of historical European martial arts in the ARMA "marketplace of ideas" is more than welcome. Inane, childish behavior is not. As stated earlier, there are plenty of other places one can go to "vent." This is not one of them.

Please respect our rules when posting. I guarantee you will find that if you post a legitimate question on these message boards, you will find no end of expert advice.

Hello Gene:

This is actually a serious question:

By *trolling*, do you mean like trolling for compliments (as fishing from slow-moving boat) and/or acting like a troll, laying in wait beneath the proverbial bridge for one's chance to attack wayfarers (such as other forumites)?

I suppose both those misdeeds are frowned upon (as they should be).

Thank you,
JLH

This should answer your question.

Gene,

Okay, so like the ugly troll under the bridge, ready to attack.

Shall we unleash the billy-goats now? <img src="/forum/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks,
JLH
