A Greatsword for me?

Well I've been looking for a while for a truely large sword for me. I have 2 albions, the Squiremark Greatsword and the Clontarf Viking. Both I love, and for what they are they do me just fine. One problem, I want a BIG SWORD. The Squiremark measures 47.125 inches, which is nice but a bit short for my taste. I'm just at 6'6-7 so I want to handle a big big sword.

I've been looking into other swords makers online to see what they offer, and I saw a Lutel sword http://www.lutel.cz/katalog160.htm .

I really like the sword at the very bottom, but I dont know how good of a sword it might actually be. For us American folk the conversion for all the facts they give about the weapon are:

The price seems right although after international shipping and such i dont know how much it would be, but the length is great although the weight seems a bit much. But I couldnt really tell unless I was to handle it. Unfortunately for me no one i know has one, obviously.

Soo, I dont know if this is the proper place to ask such a question, but I really would like a sword around 60 inches of good quality (if possible).

Anyone have any pointers?

Hi Travis,

Although I've never seen one of those two handers in person, the Lutel's I've handled were of good quality. To be honest, the market for these specialized weapons is quite small so there's not many choices. Albion will have them eventually but for now I'd choose Lutel or Arms and Armor.

Ya that is what I figured.

As for A&A their 15th Century Two-Hander( http://www.armor.com/sword156.html ) is pretty nice and has some nice specs and its even heavier than the Lutel. I prefer the pommel on the Lutel and the price just seems alot more in my range right now. I cant wait till Albion produces some big swords(big being of course a relative term here).

Only real question now is about the weight. Is that much really - that much for such a sword? i mean its a foot more of sword so i guess that is alot more weight.

I don't know anything about the quality of their swords other than what they write about themselves on their site. Maybe somebody has bought one of these and can comment on it.

They have several "Fechtbuch Swords" in their catalog. One measures 52" and weighs approx. 3.7 lbs and I believe they also do custom swords in other lengths and styles.

Several weeks ago they quoted me a price of $240 for the 50" fecthbuch sword with guard SG-1 and pommel W-1 which seemed like a reasonable price (but I haven't decided if I'm buying it yet).

Jon, I own two of his swords. here's the skinny:
awesome prices
great service-does take time to get them
they are very no-nonsense tools for training, not super fancy
built for everyday use, very durable and built very well
no complaints about the swords themselves at all, I love mine
he will build them customized to a point, both my swords were made a little heavier than spec, per my request-

JC has a Del Tin 2158 that I always liked because it handled so well for a large sword. At 5' 6" I can handle it easily and do a pretty nice florysh. Albion used to carry it, but right now I can only find it here:

Albion does still have a few of these Del Tin Swedish great swords left though. Never handled one, but I sure do love how it looks:

Also, when I got my Lutel, international shipping was about $75, but at least Lutel did the best job of packing I've ever seen. Looks like it took an hour just to get it in the box and ready to go.

Jon, Ive seen these before I believe and for the price that isnt that bad really. I think those were being used at the Schwertlager if i'm not mistaken in some counters I saw Aaron and Stew doing. I had wondered where they got the sword.

Stacy, I didnt realize that Albion had those Del Tins and that one is attractive for sure, but i do like that Del Tin from the their site that you said John had.

I'm happy to say I have more options than I orginally did believe. Its not the most lucrative of markets I can see but at least there is some production for me <img src="/forum/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

the only thing i can add to heimrick swords right now becouse i have not yet got mine and it wont be here untill january is that he gives discounts to arma members. my sword witch is not small 48 inches was 260 but with the discount its 240 and every body loves discounts.
