New here

Postby Eric Cartrette » Sat Dec 17, 2005 8:31 pm

Hello everyone. I found out about ARMA through Sword Forum Int'l some time ago but am just now joining. I look forward to learning more about WMA here. Sadly, I don't know of anyone in my area who is teaching WMA. <img src="/forum/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" />

Hi Eric and welcome! It looks like you may have just missed me. I moved up here to DC from Raleigh about a year ago. I still come back down fairly regularly, since I have family/friends in NC, so I'd be glad to meet with you and spar/train when I happen to be back in the area. I'll PM you with my information.

Still, there's a lot you can do on your own. There were some good suggestions on the thread here and here.

Also, the VA Beach guys are a couple of hours away. They've been really inviting to many of us newer members here in DC -- though I personally haven't had the chance to get down there yet. Even though that can be quite a distance to go on a weekly basis, you might be able to make a trip every once and a while to make sure you're on the right track. They're also hosting the basic Longsword 1.0 workshop on April 1 in Kitty Hawk so that would also be something useful to think about attending.

Good luck,
Ben Strickling

Hi Eric!

Well, Raleigh is not too far off from us here in the Outer Banks (Kitty Hawk).

Actually, we are hosting a NTP 1.0 longsword workshop (nat'l training program) on the weekend of 4/1/2006 here at the beach...you might wish to attend the event. And, both Shane Smith (forum moderator) and I, while living in NC, trek up to Virginia Beach area regularly to train. You're certainly welcome to come train with us when you can, I would think....

Being woefully ignorant about the geography of North Carolina, I don't know how far you are from Matt Anderson and Shane Smith, but I would certainly make every reasonable effort to get together with them and train. I guarantee you will find the time you spend with them training rewarding and educational.

Thanks everybody! But in all honesty, I have to reword something. I gave the impression that I have already joined ARMA when I should have said that I just joined the forum. But seeing all of the help that you are willing to give, I want to become a member. I apologize for not being clear earlier. I would like to attend the course at Kitty Hawk. Believe it or not, even though I grew up in NC, I've never been to Kitty Hawk. It would be a good time to bring the family out and for me to start learning about a weapon that fascinates me. Can anyone send me more info on the event?

Eric:

Senior Free Scholar Matt Anderson will be the primary instructor for the event, in conjunction with Shane Smith.

As event coordinator, I will email you privately with more details. It certainly would be to your benefit to attend the event, however you may wish to also schedule a Saturday after the holidays to trek up and see what we are about. The cast of characters in VAB is a rocking good crew..... and shame on you for never making the trip to the Wright Bros place when you live so close! (just kidding...look for a private MM on this forum next login).
