Sparring Partners needed in Kentucky

I am a beginner in European Martial Arts. Even so, I have the fire and commitment to make this a lifestyle. I am not looking for a weekend hobby but a true challenge of both mind and body, that is connected to my heritage. Essentially, I am trying to find partners with the same kind of passion. Either way I will be applying myself to these systems as long as I can lift my arms and move my legs.

May have come on a little strong yesterday, but I am really interested in getting ARMA started here in Kentucky. I have begun training on my own through research and weapon practice. I don't have a blunt, waster, or sharp yet, but I did construct the ARMA padded longsword. Anyone interested in sparring or general research discussion please contact me.

There are several ARMA members in your general area. If you're willing to train with them or to wait for about 6 months I'll be getting back from sunny Iraq and setting up regular classes in the Hopkinsville, KY/Clarksville, TN area.

Where in KY are you? Details, man!

Well, for starters I live in the Louisville Area. I am more than willing to drive to attend classes when you return from Iraq. In the mean time I will train or spar with anyone willing to pass on a little knowledge. I appreciate your help and your service.

Well Myself and Jaron Bernstein(Columbus study group) have talked about a trip down to Louisville to visit the Frazier museum.

we may be able to hook up and do some training when we get down there, no date or anything yet.

Just wanted to give an update on my progress. I have been training with my padded weapon (no waster yet), using what I have found from the ARMA online manuals and a link (found on the forum) to the BSD website. The BSD website is in German with some english translation. I found there section on the longsword (Langsvard), very helpful. My ARMA application went out in the mail this week and I really look forward to a reply. Other than that just hoping to find more members or potential members in the state area.

Well there will be another submission for membership from Kentucky this week. A friend from work who has been following ARMA since I found it has sent in his application. He also just finished his second generation sparring sword so we hope to get together before this month is out. I just received my copy of John Clements "Medieval Swordsmanship", and have been absorbing from it like a sponge. Still curious if there is anyone else in Kentucky who are already members who would like to help out the incoming newbs. It has been about four weeks since I submitted my application so I eagerly await an answer.

That's fine by me i am planning on getting to louiseville friday afternoon(6/09/06), I am willing to get in some training friday evening if anyone is interested and then saturday hit the museum.

if it is not to late we could train somemore on saturday evening, or we could do it sunday morning.

This is a tenative plan.

I saw Kentucky and just passed this post by. We are in Knoxville TN. It's not nearly as bad of a drive as it looks, and if you want to come down and spend a weekend getting started let me know... y'all are than welcome. It won't be as good as what you will get from Jake when he gets back but it will get you ready for him. He taught us (if he will admit it <img src="/forum/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" /> ).

I just finished watching The History Channel's "Axes, Swords, and Knives". They had interviews with swordsmith Paul Champlain and John Clements from ARMA. I remember telling you about this particular show and the amazing swordplay. My padded longsword is ready and I'm looking for a hockey helmet for when we start practicing. Let me know when.

Sounds good my friend. I am ready when you are. I suppose that Monday of your vacation we can get together and make a day of it. Before that happens make sure you are studying the basic stances I gave you and the eight basic lines of attack. Try to incorporate basic strikes with your footwork as well as going from one guard to another. Not that I am an expert or anything I just think it will help before we spar. Well I am dead tired it is almost 4 a.m. . See you on friday
