Please help with Fiore

Postby Andrey Lileyev » Thu Apr 13, 2006 8:51 am

Looking for Flos Duellatorum text I've found it in two representatios: Getty Representation and Pisani-Dossi Representation. But they are quite different. Even the text sizes are not the same. For example if Pisani-Dossi Representation gives just two rows for a figure (as in faximile copy that I have) the Getty's gives much more.

If somebody knows both can he explane the reason? Is it because of two different period manuscripts or just some unrestricted retelling? If last, which representation are less free-style?

A major new article on Fiore, "14th century Master of Defence" will be online here next week. Should be very helpful. Long in work.

Hi Andrey,

we have 3 known manuscripts from Fiore. They describe the same art that Fiore taught, but they are each individual works. We have the Pissani Dossi, the Getty, and the Morgan manuscripts. The Getty seems to have the most comprehensive text of the three.

Hope this helps.
