Avarage weights of weapons and armors

Postby Guest » Mon Jun 05, 2006 12:30 am

Are there tables of armors and weapons weights?

I found this essay where are very detailed information about 2h-swords and their weights. Something like this (doesn't have to be as detailed) I would like to have for other weapons, too. I thought you guys would have the information.

I need an avarage weight for next armors:
1) hard leather cuirass/greaves/helmet
2) chain cuirass/greaves/helmet
3) plate cuirass/greaves/helmet (some parts may be leather or chain if only the main material is plate)

...and for the next weapons:
1) 1h sword (broadsword, longsword or such)
2) short sword (like above but shorter)
3) 1h mace (i don't know much of these, not flails )
4) 1h axe (used for warfare)
5) 2h axe (are there any 2h axes? I am not talking about polearms)

Remember that I need avarage values.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

I'll hop in here before the moderators do to tell you you'll need to re-join the board with your first and last name, as per forum rules, or you'll be canned. This is a moderated board and there aren't many rules, but they're taken seriously.

Now, to be even more helpful, I'll try to hit your questions off the top of my head. Let me preface by saying it would help if we know who you were and what you were using the stats for (e.g. research paper or role playing game) since that will color how we approach the topic.

One handed swords, which come in many varieties, might weight from 2 pounds to 4 pounds, depending. The shorter swords are more likely to be on the lower end of that range, but not necessarily. Longer swords, like a "hand and a half" will be on the 3-5 pound range, usually, though 2.5 is not unheard of, I believe.

Your axes and maces, etc., are all going to be pretty light; nothing should really get heavier than maybe 8 pounds, and to be honest that's pushing it for anything that is supposed to be wielded in a real fight.

I'm not an armor guy, so I'll leave that for someone else.

A one-hand axe is around 3-3 1/2 pounds(at least that's what mine weighs). As Jake said, re-register with your real name please.

Sorry for wrong username. I will create a new account but how do I remove this one? I would like to use the same e-mail address but the forum doesn't let me to do that. I read FAQ but I didn't find answer. If a moderator hears my call please remove this account.

This information is used for computer-roleplaying-game but I am intrested in mediaval weapons (close combat, bows, siege weapons etc.) generally.

Derek Gulas , thank you. I understand that people in this forum takes their duty seriously and rules are made to obey.

Don't worry about deleting the old, we can do that as required.
