New in Arizona

Hello,

I've recently come across your organization and am very interested in participating. I have some small background with sport fencing but I've always been interested in a more historical approach to fencing and especially in learning something like a longsword. I've been reading as much information on your website as I can in the past couple days and have ordered some of your recommended books. My problem however is that I don't see any groups in my area (Phoenix/Tempe) or in Arizona at all for that matter. A forum search turned up some old information about a group that used to be in Mesa but I couldn't find much more.

My question then is how should I go about getting started? I have one other person here who would be interested so I suppose we could train together, but without someone knowledgeable I feel like we might end up going in the wrong direction.

Thank you for the help,
Chris

You might want to do 2 things:

1. Get yourself to a 1.0 seminar so you can have a good base and not start off with bad habits.

2. Find someone else (preferably several folks) to train with.

3. You might consider contacting the study group closest to you and visiting them for a day or so. The Utah folks are really, really impressive.
