Jan 20 Dagger Seminar at IDS

Postby Jay Vail » Fri Nov 17, 2006 12:05 am

I apologize for the schedule changes we've been forced to make concerning the dagger seminar at IDS outside Atlanta due to conflicts that have cropped up. I think we have a firm date for Jan. 20, 2007.

The program is open to ARMA members only, except possibly for special invitees, who may be designated by the director. Enrollment is limited to 10, however, due to space limitations.

The plan is to begin in the morning at 9 a.m. and run to 5 p.m. We intend to address fundamentals (covering, grip, basic striking), then basic concepts of unarmed defense, dagger-to-dagger play, and if there is time and interest, defense against the sword, and possibility freeplay. Techniques will be drawn mainly from Fiore, Talhoffer, and Meyer.

In the afternoon, JC will lead a session of about 2 hours covering master strikes. Given the recent discussions about the krumphau, this is a great opportunity to sweep away the confusion.

Please plan to bring your own dagger/knife waster if at all possible. I only have a few spares. Many prefer to use rondel wasters, but any practice dagger/knife will do. Most of the techniques can be performed against or with a weapon of any length. Rubber wasters are not recommended, since disarms cannot be done effectively against such a practice tool.

And don't forget your longsword waster.

For details and registration send me a private email.

I look forward to seeing you there.

JV
