New French Fencing Publication

Postby Jeffrey Hull » Fri Nov 17, 2006 12:18 pm

Here is a new publication put together by our friends in France who belong to Arts d'Armes and HEMAC

http://perso.orange.fr/fcognot/pubfr.htm

I was allowed the honour of perusal of a draft-copy of that L'Art du Combat à Cheval by Michael Huber.

Oh, of course, forgot to point that out.

Yet regarding the French articles, the one I got to read pre-publishing has some snazzy analysis of Roszfechten sources.

Here's more info :)

"Maîtres et Techniques de Combat à fin du Moyen Age et au début de la Renaissance"

This book has been published in collaboration with the Association pour l'Edition et la Diffusion Des Etudes Historiques (AEDEH) and is the first volume dedicated to the works and studies made in relation with the annual Historical European Martial Arts International Gathering organized since 2002 by members of De Taille et d'Estoc and HEMAC on the university campus of Dijon, Burgundy, France.

This book has been made with the help of the Fonds de Solidarité et de Développement des Initiatives Etudiantes (FSDIE) of the University of Burgundy. Also, it benefited from the precious help of Mr Denis Cailleaux, Maître de Conférences at the University of Burgundy.

On our website you will find abstracts of the articles (in French and English).

Contents :

Avant-propos/Foreword - Fabrice Cognot

L'Art du Combat à Cheval aux XIVe et XVe siècles dans le Saint Empire Romain Germanique, d'après les traités d'escrime / The Art of Fighting from horseback in the XIVth and XVth centuries in the Holy Roman Empire, after the fencing treatises. - Michael Huber.

A few considerations on Renaissance Dagger Fencing / Quelques considérations sur l'escrime à la dague à la Renaissance. - Carlo Parisi

Luitger par lui-même ? Stratigraphie d'une synthèse médiévale de l'escrime / Luitger by himself ? Stratigraphy of a mediaeval synthesis of fencing. - Franck Cinato & André Surprenant

Joachim Meyer, escrimeur libre, bourgeois de Strasbourg (1537 ? - 1571) / Joachim Meyer, free fencer, Burgher of Strasburg (1537 ? - 1571). - Olivier Dupuis

The AGISE research method / La méthode AGISE. - Bart Walczak

Like Jeff said, Articles are in French or English (the title, and therefore the used language, is mentionned at the first place in the list above), with abstacts in both languages. It's not overly complicated French though :)

It is now available for order at the price of 14 euros (not including S & H), through a downloadable order form that you will find on our group's website De Taille et d'Estoc

For any further information, feel free to contact us at the email address mentionned on the order form.

Thanks

Fab

Not to distract from the topic, but since it was mentioned:

Some day I truly hope there shall be found a French equivalent for Longsword of Le Jeu de la Hache -- some sort of Le Jeu de la Lang-Espee, so to speak, from circa 1400-1600. That would be totally cool. (Please forgive if my usage of French was incorrect there)

Many of us have our conjectures as to why such are scarce, but hopefully that shall be changed by the finding of some period document(s) someday.

Good luck,
