Hey, I'm Matt Adams, a college student living in Temple, TX right now. I'm really excited I found this site, because medieval history has always fascinated me, and I've always wanted to learn how to do this stuff the real, historical way. I'd love to join, but do have a couple of questions before I send in my $30.
First, there's not anyone on the practice partners page within an hour's driving time of me, so simply getting to an instructor might be difficult. Are there people closer to me (Waco, Killeen, or perhaps Austin) who are not listed on that page who I could train with or learn from?
Second, I don't have any weapons of my own that I could practice with on my own. If I'm going to make a practice weapon, what's the best style for me to start off with?
Third, is it a problem if I've never had any training in any sport fencing or SCA stuff? I have some friends in the SCA, but the whole set-up just seemed hokey to me, with the fake kingdoms and whatnot. Unfortunately, that also means I have absolutely no fighting training other than a few years of taekwondo when I was little.
