My assessment is this; I enjoy the show as I do ANYTHING that spotlights medieval weaponry,but the absolute falsehood that is put forth as fact is astonishing to me.A couple of particularly troubling things I saw follow;
1.I saw an episode wherein guys in full plate were still bearing shields while fighting on foot.
2.These same guys were using longswords one-handed in conjunction with those shields while in full plate.
3.The guys are wearing non-tailored armor yet complaining about "how uncomfortable" it is to wear.
4.In one episode,the guys were fighting with an AXE against a sword and shield.The guy with the shield kept backing straight up from the host with the axe.The host presented this as evidence that the axe was unbeatable....I guess no-one thought to stifle the axe with the shield and cut with the sword?
5.There is an episode wherein the guys are fighting in full plate.No-one ever seeks to close and there is no hint of half-swording or any other historically-accurate techniques that I can recall.It looked like SCA fighting.
In closing,I think it's a fun show as long as you suspend your common sense and your analytical leanings. <img src="/forum/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />
