Swordfish 2007 - Celebrating the European Martial Arts

Swordfish is the first annual event in Sweden for historical European martial arts. In 2006 it was held in Malmö (hosted by David Lindholms group MHFS), but this year we will carry on the torch in Gothenburg, on the Swedish west coast. It is held 2-4 November 2007 and hosted by Gothenburg Historical Fencing School, (GHFS).

Swordfish is unique in many ways. After only one year it has become known as a tough event, with intense training and a lot of different classes to attend. And although that is true for many events, Swordfish hosts instructors and classes that you will not find anywhere else as well as some more well-known faces. It is uniquely Scandinavian as well as European.

The event draws fencers, boxers, wrestlers and other martial artists from around the world during a time of year when there are few other events around. It is a great opportunity to come together, meet friends and train hard.

Swordfish 2007 will feature a lot more social events than last year. We have lecture halls, a pub, projector announcements and a designated hall for free sparring. Everything is gathered in the same facilities and you will not have to travel around to go to classes or to get some sleep. Restaurants are in close proximity to the event.

So join in on the fun and come to Gothenburg for a couple of days of inspiration, hard work and camaraderie. For more information visit www.ghfs.se/swordfish

Welcome!

The Swordfish crew

At Swordfish we will have alot of great instructors, I will post the ones I know about here, though some of them are only preliminary as of yet:

Tomek and Pjotr-Master Otts Wrestling
Matt Easton- Fiore longsword
Milo Thurston- pugilism, smallsword
Guy Windsor- sword and buckler, rapier, body mechanics, entering the fight
Matt Galas (dunno what he will do yet, probably a lecture of some sort)
Emil Strenge- test cutting (this guy is great)
Tomas Hageaus- cross training for HEMA-artists and reenactors, group fighting.

Martin Wallgren - Talhoffers halfsword (you can see videos of them here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDGrD7GIn4g)
Todd Törnqvist- Military Sabre
Björn Solander- Messer

This last gang are Swedes and perhaps unknown to the greater community, but they have done this for several years and were all members of ARMA Sweden before it disbanded (as myself).

Hopefully we will also have Peter Johnson there, and atleast we will have Sören from Albion Europe there to show of swords (you can probably borrow them for test cutting aswell).

We will also have several retailers there selling HEMA equipment and assorted medieval/renaissance stuff.
