NTP 1.0 in Abingdon, VA

I'm pleased to announce that there will be an NTP 1.0 held in Abingdon, VA on November 17th, 2007. John Clements will be teaching the 1.0 that Saturday, with some informal training, sparring, test cutting, and some grilling if the weather hasn't turned too cold by then on Sunday. John will only be available on Saturday.

Fees and venue will be announced in the next few weeks.

The 1.0 with John has been extended to Sunday as well.

That's not too far from here. I may well try to get to this one if I survive the Intl. Event :lol:

Bring friends!

I have a cheerleading gym lined up to hold it in. They have a firm, padded floor, and those big pads used in judo and aikido.

It's cheaper than the conference center that I was going to use too.

What accommodations would be available down there? I might be able to take a Greyhound down during that timeframe.

If I could possibly camp out in someone's backyard, it would be a miracle for me.

I will have limited space at my house. My wife has already agreed to turn over the first floor of our house to ARMA (she's already turned over part of the garage :twisted: :wink: ). JC has dibs on the guest suite, but there is another guest room as well as the library floor. Now if I can just get the dog to stay in the back yard I can fix up my man-cave and y'all can have access to it as well. Y'all will just have to be relatively quiet after my son goes to bed around 6:30.

The closest hotel is a Comfort Inn. In the next few days I'm going to go over there and see what sort of special rate I can negotiate. If I don't like their rate there are a few others I can try. The motels near the facility are sketchy at best, but if you don't mind a place with rats and remnants of a meth lab, I'll check on one.

Edit: If you want to go up upscale there is the Martha Washington Inn downtown. I think it's over a hundred a night.

That would be indeed fortuitous, but I'll need to get my completed schedule of classes for this semester before I can say anything definite. Suffice to say that a floor and shelter from the rain (of any kind) are good enough for me.

Well I haven't quite worked all that out yet. My grand plans of getting much of it done once I got back from this weekend were thwarted by baby issues. :x :roll:

Here are a few more details regarding the NTP 1.0 to be held in Abingdon, VA on November 17-18. This will be taught by John Clements, and is required now for GFS testing.

Cost will be $75 for ARMA members, and $100 for non-members with an ARMA member sponsor. ARMA youth members will pay only $50. All fees are due by November 2nd. After November 2nd there will be an additional $25 late fee. If you wish to sign up just contact me privately at this email address and I will send you my snail mail address in order to send your check. We can take care of waivers at the event on Saturday, except that ARMA youth members will need to have one signed by parent or guardian beforehand if they are not also attending the 1.0.

The event will be held at East Coast Cheer Academy which is actually in Bristol, VA. It's a pretty nice place and isn't too "cheerleadery" for the most part.

The hotels around there are pretty sketchy, so in the interest of an ARMA member not getting caught up in a meth bust, I'll suggest staying away from them. There is a Comfort Inn very close to my house at exit 14 on I-81. They quoted me a price of $60. If we're going to take up more than five rooms it looks like we could get a better rate. If you want to go way upscale there is the Martha Washington Inn in downtown Abingdon.

(Edit: Just do a search for the hotels. I took the Comfort Inn link off since it made the forum page too wide.)

I will be able to take six people at my house. This is the limit that my wife assigned. You will have the floor in our basement which is finished. There is one bed available (besides the guest suite) that you can all fight for. Availability at my house is first come, first served as far as letting me know you want to stay there.

That Friday is the opening of the new Beowulf movie. The local movie theater is really nice, so I can check into getting a block of tickets ahead of time if y'all want to make an outing of it. Besides that, we might have dinner one night at a German restaurant in town. I thought that appropriate considering the source of many of the manuals. We can decide which to do which night closer to time.

We may be able to have a local cafe cater for lunch. I'll update participants on how much that will be. The place is managed by one of my training partners, so we should be able to get a deal.

If you'd like to bring family members along, Abingdon is a pretty nice tourist destination without being cheezy. Let me know if you'd like information on touristy stuff.
