Rapier Seminar and "Tactical" Class- Appleton/ Oct

Postby Aaron Pynenberg » Tue Aug 21, 2007 10:15 am

Folks, This will begin Info on the up-coming Rapier Seminar and "tactics" class-

ARMA-Appleton will be hosting a seminar October 20th and 21st.

John Clements will be hosting a Rapier Seminar on Saturday. This class will cover the basics of the weapon and should not be missed! John's instruction has a cumulative effect and even if you have seen it recently you will always absorb more from his instruction.

Sunday I will be giving a class entitled " The Tactical Scholar, VOR, INDES,NACH"

In this class I will discuss and disect some of the tactics that I use as a scholar, and relate these tactics to the sources. We will do some practical exercises working with these concepts and then watch some film from a few Prize Playing events to illustrate examples. The class will be supported by documentation covering these skills and a worksheet. These skills will pay immediate benefits regardless of skill level.

The details are still being worked out, but if interested I will hold your slot if you are committed to attending. Space will be limited!!! and Members Only!!!!- Thanks, SFS Aaron Pynenberg

Rapier seminar.

Yeah, I can't believe that I am saying this after last weekend's flight experiences, but, "Where does one fly into when going to Appleton?"
Although recent memories have me shirking from air travel, I am interested in the Rapier seminar...having experienced one with John C. here in Virginia Beach a little over a year and a half ago. What do you think the costs will run as well?

Ok plans are getting squared away, here's the shake down so far:

Cost will be $100 this includes the following:

Friday- we will meet here in Appleton at 1200, then travel to Albion for a guided tour, with dinner following the tour in New Glarus. We will the travel back for a little beverages and discussion at my place.

Saturday- is the Rapier seminar with John followed by dinner at a local micro brewery, where we will have the very famous "pub Quiz" with a sweet prize awarded to the winer.

Sunday- is my tactical class and some group training. We will probably wrap by 1:00pm on Sunday.

To fly here use ATW as the airport code, we can provide some shuttle service to the airport and where you would like to stay. My apartment is a loft, so there is not really any room for crashing, but contact me privately and we could probably do like 3-4 people on floor space if your after that sort of thing- otherwise google, the radisson paper valley hotel on College Ave Appleton. That is the best place to stay and pretty reasonable.

Any questions let me know- the design of this event is to be a smaller group, so let me know early if you want to attend- see you soon! AP

Aaron:

Count me in for the rapier seminar. (Also, how does one study for the "pub quiz?"- sounds like it will be at my sort of classroom...)

If there are any other out-of-towner ARMAteers attending the rapier seminar who are interested in splitting the cost of a hotel room with someone, send me a PM or email, as I would be interested as well.

Ok, We just finished up our Seminar and Gathering Event.

ARMA Members I have three new General Free Scholars to introduce to you. I have the pleasure of certifing that Jeremiah Backhaus, Jim and Christine Churches have all certified as GFS. They all did an excellent job both in the physical skills demonstration as well as their Oral Board. I was very impressed and pleased at the obvious displays of personal training and study. It was very clear to all watching the test that these folks are serious Scholars, and know what it takes to continue to improve, nice work new ARMA GFS's!

Thanks also to John C, for a very informative Rapier Seminar. He is always an Instructor who gives you everything he is able, this seminar for me was something I was looking forward to for some time. Thanks very much John!

Thanks as well to ARMA-Appleton Members, Kevin Peterson, and Eric winkler. Kevin is my go-to guy for all sorts of assistance. He really is a vital component to our efforts, thanks Kevin and his Wife Robin, as I am sure being without him for the entire weekend was not easy, Thanks!

Eric Winkler continues to demonstrate the clear ambition to be a valuable ARMA Member and Martial Artist. He brings all his considerable skills to contiously improve his products, and provide the best possible tools for all of us. He is always there if I need his help. Thanks also to his Wife Brenda for being very supportive of all of his time spent to this effort. Thanks guys!

Needs to be said that many Members drove considerable distances to be here, you were all very attentive and supportive. This event was a substantial success- Thanks all! - Aaron Pynenberg (SFS) Study Group Leader, ARMA-Appleton

Many thanks to ARMA-Appleton for the seminar weekend. It was one of the best training weekends I have ever had (and not the last). The fellowship was amazing, it was nice to meet people from all over (Las Vegas, Minnesota, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Indiana). It was great to get together with people I've never met before and form some real friendships, especially over the cow...
Thanks again to John for the Rapier work. A very informative class done with some Pinache.
Thanks to Aaron for the Indes training. A closer look at Indes is always needed and appreciated.
It was wonderful to train with all of you, to get to know you and I look forward to meeting many of you again. Thank you all for your support in my testing. It felt very great to know that you all were pulling for me when I was going for it too.
Congratulations again to Jim and Christine, way to go! I look forward to meeting you again and training with you (maybe outdoors in your neck of the country).
I know a lot of people talked like this about the IG, but since I couldn't go, this was very close to it for me, so I had to let you all know that it was great fun and experience. But now, on to the work...

What a fabulous weekend! Great training, great fellowship...and even the weather cooperated!

Thanks so much to ARMA Appleton - Kevin, for carting us around all weekend and for all your help on Sunday; Eric for our cool training tools and fun all weekend (and of course the most mellow ARMA baby ever); and Aaron, well, for just being Aaron and working to demonstrate to all of us how to become better fighters and have a pretty good time doing it.

Also thank you John - we now have a better appreciation for the rapier and its uses...as well as sore legs and forearms... :D

Jeremiah, I'm very glad I got to test before you - you would have been a tough act to follow. Can't wait to get another training bearhug....not sure yet how to counter that but I'm working on it...

And thanks to the guys at Albion - your tour was interesting, and any time I get to handle many swords is a good day!

OK...must go stretch and do footwork drills ...hope to see all of you soon!
