Where to buy a Dussack?

I'm looking for a good quality dussack. I looked at Eric's plastic waster page, but it doesn't look like he makes one, only longswords.

I've talked with Christian at Purple Heart and he makes a wooden one and a leather version as well. I also spoke to Mark from Hickory Arms at the CT Ren Faire and he said if I gave him the dimensions, he could make one for me too.

While shopping around, I was just wondering if anyone here had a dussack and who made it for you?

EDIT: Corrected my posts in this thread to reflect the correct spelling of dussack.

The ARMA associate who runs With Intent Wasters states he plans messer & dussack designs soon -- you could inquire of him :arrow:

I think that also the ARMA-Florida group may commonly use some sort of dussack-wasters, but you ought to ask them for further info about that.

I make a plastic Dussack waster. I do have a picture of mine, but it hasn't been posted to my webpage yet. :oops:

My apologies to you Brian -- I honestly forgot that you make those nice wooden dussacks, and make or are switching to plastic ones :arrow:

WI makes a great nylon dussack, though i do not know if it is in full "production" yet. They were being sold at the international.

I would shoot an e-mail to WI, you will probably be able to get a Dussack that you will never want to put down.

Hi Jeffery,

no problem. Also, I do already make a shorter plastic messer I just need the time between everything I am already doing to update my webstite to reflect what I currently make. I also make a nice plastic dussack. I have pretty much switched to plastic because of the difficulty I have had lately getting a decent piece of Hickory.

Thank you all for your input. I now have a lot to work with. I'm considering going with a plastic gross messer instead of the dussack.

Well, at least according to wikipedia, a dussack is a waster, for practicing messer, falchion or cutlass, so going with a großes messer waster instead seems like a good idea.
I can't see why you would want to use a dussack. Neither now, nor back in the middle ages. Why not use a waster, that is shaped as the weapon that you whish to train in?
BTW, it's grosses messer, though I'd love to see a gross messer ;)

And, I spelled dussack as 'dusack all through the post too. Just shoot me.


Wikipedia does have dusack (and some other spellings) listed as a variant of how it is spelled, though, so I'm guessing that it isn't wrong (though I could be wrong about that)
