IG07 Prize Playing highlights

Postby Webmaster » Thu Nov 08, 2007 4:28 pm

A short video has been posted on YouTube with highlights of Aaron Pynenberg's Senior Free-Scholar Prize Playing at the International Gathering. Thanks to Jaron Bernstein for the film and Sydney Heald (Yarbrough) for the editing.

I suggest those who have a YouTube login should comment on it.

Nice.....

Excellent. Loved the music too!

Wow, what a difference between the energy of our freeplay against some of the other videos of other WMA groups that popped up to the right of it on youtube. Absolutely no comparison with our intensity and martial spirit. Not tentative or sword-tagg-ish like so many other videos there.

Clearly shows a consistent level even across so many different study groups from so many different places. Thanks for the compilation Jaron & Syd...

Good show! What were the rules or regulations during the prize fights?

Brings back the memory like it was just the other day, beauty in motion . Will there be one for Stew F's prize as well? By the way where do you find cool Renaissance music like that?

We plan to have one for Stew as well, but Syd is a theater professor in the thick of her busy season right now running several different shows, so video editing time is limited, please have patience. The music selection was provided by JC.

Rules, we don't need no stinking rules. LOL

Anyone with a more constructive answer? :). I noticed that someone called "halt" on a few occasions, so there must be some some regulations around which you bouted, or was it simply a reliance on the combatants control without any perimeters at all?

That would be really impressive, and I say that without any irony, but I was under the impression that the prize play was open for members of all skill levels so reliance on control only might not have been an option?

Regulations

Postby Jeffrey Hull » Mon Nov 12, 2007 2:16 pm

Yes, of course there were prizing regulations -- based upon valid historical sources and put in place for safety reasons.

The very fact that the fighters are not trying to slaughter each other with sharpened weapons as per a hostile grudge-match tends to indicate some regulations.

If our director JC wants to elaborate further, then he may do so, but that is up to him. I have said all that I should say.

Hi,

I really enjoyed this sparring video, good job everyone!

To second Axel, I must say that it would be interesting to know the rules if they are currently available.

Regards,
Alexander
