This is my name. Has been my logon since the HACA days circa 1998. I can redo it to say Jay, but my professional name and the name people know me by is J.

There was a thread on this topic not too long ago (was gonna link it but I couldn't find it maybe someone else can).

From what I can recall of that discussion wrestling shoes are a popular choice (and very affordable) though some felt that more traditional footware is important.

footwear
more footwear

As for legwear, I believe most wear black sweatpants (found in any clothing store that carries any sort of sportswear). Are those the pants you are referring to?

The cheap version is this. Get some knee high soccer (football for those Euros among us ) socks. Put sweatpants on over them. Roll the pant legs up to the knee. I find that (or shorts) enhances mobility and looks a bit more historical than shorts. I prefer modern wrestling shoes, but anything light with a thin sole should suffice.

If your sports store has football/soccer equipment you can also find these (for goalies):Image

I have a pair of those, they are great and as Jaron said, gives you greater mobility than regular long pants + that "modern historical" look I think goes so nicely with what we do.

Sweatpants are the cheapest, most readily available way to go.

Another option would just be to "Beowulf" it.  Not really something I would do, especially as cold it is getting now.

I practice naked and oiled, like the Greeks of old. Aren't the plates in Capo Ferro also naked?

Bah no wonder I'm having trouble starting up a study group.

Bah no wonder I'm having trouble starting up a study group.

Im thinking of me and my study group training in the buff and it gives me shivers down my spine. Dont get me wrong, they are a good bunch of guys...but c'mon.

Personally, I train in athletic shoes, black BDU cargo shorts and an official ARMA red T-shirt. However, I have been looking for better footwear than my old running shoes and wrestling shoes are my next purchase. I see a lot of senior members using them, so that sold me alone.

I have sent a private message with the details. I do not want to drift too far off topic.

I ran into The Slipper Lady this weekend at a craft fair. She hand-makes authentic renaissance shoes and sells her wares at the Ren faires.

Check it out if you're interested: The Slipper Lady

I just checked the link and it's acting a bit weird. It opens two windows. Just close the one asking if you're the Slipper Lady and her actual page should be behind it. I'm using Mozilla, so your browser may act differently.
