*I realize this should have gone in the Research and Training forum. If a mod wants to move this there, it is fine. I appoligize for the mistake.*
Hello, let me go ahead and introduce myself. I am new to the ways of WMA and European Martial Arts in general. I have been a fan of fantasy swords my whole life but did not take a real interest into lately.
I have taken an interested in the Liechtenauer style of longsword fighting. I bought the book Sigmund Ringeck's Knightly Art of hte Longsword by David Lindholm and Peter Svard and am using as refference to learn. I also live in South Florida, Broward County specifically. However I work all day sunday and I believe that is the day when the chapter meets but I am not sure anyway I have a few questions about replica swords here.
I started off with a Paul Chen hand and a half blunt but I was unimpressed and sold it to help pay for a Darksword 1340 two hander. I had that sword professionally regripped by Brian Kunz of Arms of Valor along with fixing up the scabbard. I then tried to sharpen it myself using smith sharpenners and files. I now left huge gashes in the blade as a result and it still cannot cut. So what did I do you may ask?
Well I searched around and bought an Angus Trim sword, a Maker's Mark XIIa with the accented fuller since it has almost the same dimensions as my DSA sword and should hopefully be right at home in its scabbard. I should have it in a month. I have read mixed opinions about ATrim's work on this forum so I'm not sure what to expect. I know most of thoose post are several years old. I have also heard excellent stuff about his work on Sword Buyer's Guide forum. ShooterMike over there loves his stuff.
Oh almost forgot to mention, I did get another DSA sword which I had on back order, the 1332 gothic two hander. It is some kind of XVIa XVIIIa mix but it is a whole other story than the older DSA I have. This blade is also being professionally redone by AOV including sharpenning. The blade no longer has a twist off pommel, it is instead glued onto the tang. I know, not the most historic but it was very tight during dry testing. I will know more when Brian finishes it in the next week or so. Anyway, just curious what all your opinions were on swords, training, things of that nature. I know most of you recrommend the Albion Maestro line for training blades but I was curious if anyone here tried the slightly heavier Gen2 training longswords since they cost $178 vrs $450 or so for the Albion.
