Ala Triste?

Postby Jaron Bernstein » Sun Jun 22, 2008 4:43 am

Has anyone here seen the movie Ala Triste?

1. What was your impression of the sword portions?
2. Where can I get a copy of it? I am having difficulty finding a vendor that sells it.

I am a lover of Revete's books and I could not wait to see the movie of one of the best character of this author.
Mortensen fit very well to the anti-eroe Alatriste.

1 The battle scene are those portion I prefers:
very realistic and cruel, good reconstrucion of equipment.
The singular fight with single sword are of ordinary stage fencing,
and I expected to see more sword&dagger fencing.
Even in the final duel with the italian Malatesta parrying dagger was
too often out of the line of attack, while the cup rapier was used to much for cutting like a saber and few thrusts and even less disengagement.

PS I am forgotting to say....the story is slow, silent and sad

Finally go to see it.

The cinimatography was great, as was the window into that period in Spanish history. Great way to capture the flavor/zeitgeist of the era. But you are correct, the fencing sucked badly. Full arms cuts with true rapiers while the other guy stays point on. There was even a spin!
