Hi,
So i have done quite a bit of fighting in a transitional harness. Now that I am getting back into the swing of things (no pun intended) I would like to build myself a low gothic harness.
I have made a sallet or two, and other pieces that corospond to that type of armor in the past. The one part that I am trying to figure out and I no longer live in NYC, so I cant go to the met and find out is the bevor. I made some drawings of one with a sallet taht I liked that had sort of a falling buff. The part that I cant figure out is the fit, and how rotational movment is allowed when the bevor/buff is on.
I am woundering if that was the whole point of a falling buff. Up for the initial charge at lance, and then down for more dynamic fighing. If so, then that answers that.
Also, if I go with a falling buff, are the nubs that hold the lames in place made replaceable? Sorta a rivet head. Last but not least how far up dose a bevor go?
It has been my experience that a well made and tailored harness works way better and makes a hudge difference in preformance.

P.S. Lets hope santa leaves me a gambeson and porpoint under the tree this year!

Thanks,
J

I don't care for a bevor at all. I like being able to move my head too much

The one I had is from MT and allows decent movement with the top down but I just don't like the limitation it imparts coupled with the sallet. Mine had a springpin for the falling plate.

I think I'd stay buttoned up for the charge and then drop the thing on down after the initial flurry was over.

Scholar Adept Rod Thornton is supposed to pick the harness up in the next couple of weeks and he could comment on it then I'd imagine.

I have typically heard the term "falling buff" applied mostly to later forms worn with various open-face helms and/or burgeonets.

Ya, but I had no other way to describe the way it was made of several lames. I think it was a circa 1475 or so.

Quick question: What's a porpoint?

A gambeson-like garment that often/generally has points for attaching armour straps...especially the legs.

It looks like an overlong vest.

"Articulated bevor" would do.
