Solo Drills

Postby Tyler Cook » Mon Jun 08, 2009 12:41 pm

Hello ARMA. My name is Tyler. I'm 18 years old and a recent graduate with lots of free time now that school is over. Now I ask you what better way to spend my time than practicing the sword as it was meant to be practiced?

I have a waster and a copy of the Codex Wallerstein but I don't have any one in my area to practice with. So I was hoping to call upon the experience of the masses here on the boards to point me in the direction of some good solo drills and things that I can do on my own. Thanks in advance for the help :)

There are two excellant study groups in Houston (see the practice partners listings). I suggest contacting them.

Aside from the name thing (which Gene always beats me to :() I would say, Tyler, that good solo drills consist of simple repetition of action, or fighting against the pell (so to speak)/test cutting. Test cutting obviously needs a steel or aluminum sword/waster of the blunt or sharp variety (blunt does... alright-ish... sharp is really made for the cutting, though, unless your blunt is particularly edgy, so to speak).

I've seen that there are groups in the Houston area but unfortunately I live in the suburbs (The Woodlands to be specific) and I don't have a car or a parent willing to drive me into North Houston every week or so. That's why I was looking for the solo drills.

And I'm sorry about the naming thing. I guess I didn't read the rules as well as I should have.

I'm fairly sure that the last names are coincidence.

Haha. No problem. I actually asked my dad about it and he said he didn't think so but he wasn't sure because I have such a huge family.
