I'd like to apologize ahead of time if this is too off topic, and give permission (not that they need it) to any moderators to remove it if desired.
Anyway, I just got done read the first novel I've had time to read in a long while. It was The Dragon Knight by Gordon R. Dickson. It is a fantasy novel (So dragons, wizards, etc.) Set in 15th century Europe. Blah blah.
The final fight was the single, most enjoyable fight I have read since joining ARMA! Accurate terminology (Calling a Longsword a Two-handed Sword), accurate understanding of the physical properties of the weapons (Longswords not being terrible heavy, but noticeably heavier than an arming sword), correct uses of the longsword (Strong blows, but also half-swording, and using the weapon to take advantage of the weaknesses of plate armor), reasonably correct stances (An exaggerated Pendant guard, and either Ochs or Pflug), dynamic footwork (clear description of die waage(sp?)), and the correct mobility of plate mail.
Now there were obviously some concessions made for plot, but no monologues or anything distracting. I thoroughly enjoyed this ending b/c I was better able to understand what was going on b/c of my RMA training, and I didn't have to spend time going "yeah right".
That's all, I just wanted to share my excitement.
