Training whilst at school.

Postby Nathan Dexter » Sun Jan 10, 2010 12:27 pm

Once again, its been months since I posted last, but seeing as I am a college student, I'm having difficulty finding ways to train aside from general conditioning and working out. Part of the problem is that it's mid January. So I'm wondering what others do or have done in this situation. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat, and I just do cutting drills and pell work mainly. I also spend time working out of specific manuals practicing specific techniques. When you're by yourself there isn't much more you can do then that.

Likewise. All I can add is that in my experience, the problem may be finding large blocks of time in which to train. So another possible thing you can do is to break up your workout into shorter increments, and space them throughout the day. Like, for example, studying one page of a manual for ten minutes, for every hour of your regular schoolwork? Or floryshing for two minutes after every half hour of regular study time.

Doing something like that could not only help your fencing practice, but it could also help your college work by breaking it up and "cleansing the palate." Try doing that, instead of taking a break from studying by doing something unproductive like watching TV. Not that I'm accusing you of that, of course.... :)
Thanks,

Tom Reynolds
