Training partners in southwest Missouri/northwest Arkansas?

Postby Amanda MacKenzie » Fri Jan 01, 2010 4:53 pm

I live in Hollister MO just south of Branson MO, pretty near Springfield, MO.
Anybody out there interested in getting together?

I live in Springfield and have been wanting to get into training for a while now. I'd be willing to help put together a local group if anyone else is interested. I may have a friend or two who may be interested as well.

Hey I was thinking maybe everyone in the tri-city area of Sikeston, STL, and Springfield could coordinate a weekend of training? Maybe meet in the middle (current river), or each city host its own weekend?

I'm going to be moving to St. Louis pretty soon, so if anyone's interested in training with me, let me know. I'm an ARMA member, and have masks and stuff.

A tri-city meetup sounds like fun.

The StL study group is planning on having a little unofficial get together to go to the art museum and have a little training day on the 26th of June...if anyone else is interested PM either Andrew Ulrich or myself for more
details.

Well, we're not officially a study group yet, just me and two other guys right now (one member and one non-member). But I'm going to try to get a hold of the curator for the Art Museum and see if we can get some exclusive access to their arms and armor collection. I hear the story is that a former curator had been obsessed with collecting historical arms and armor, and so they have a lot more than what's on display. I can't promise he'll cooperate yet though. Also, if anyone's got a sharp, maybe we could do some test cutting while we're all together.

Sweet! (Sorry about the mislabel) I already have a few Murray people interested. It should be epic if we pull it together.

Well, I went to the museum today and talked to some people, but they said it's very unlikely we'll get to see anything other than what's on display as they're currently undergoing major construction (adding a new wing and renovating part of the building), so what's in storage is probably packed away quite snugly right now along with tons of other stuff that's not usually in storage, and so is probably quite inaccessible, but I got the curator's number so I'll see what he says. The display itself is worth seeing though.

June 26th

Well it looks like our june 26th get together is coming together nicely. Is there anyone from southwest Missouri who thinks they can make it to STL?

Any others from NW Arkansas?

Postby Patrick Bundy » Sat Jul 17, 2010 1:30 pm

Looks like I am the only one responding from NW Arkansas. STL is about the same for me as Dallas. I'm not sure how often I could meet, it depends a lot on work and school and obligations with my family (and of course, my other passion, Mt Biking). I have studied martial arts for roughly 15 years off and on (mostly "on" and mostly practiced the Eastern variety) but have zip, zero, nada experience with WMA but am highly interested. I've been rather dis-enchanted with the Eastern styles and would like to contribute what I could to the study and advancement of WMA. If there are others closer to NW Arkansas, please PM me and see if an arrangement can be made. I may know others in NW Arkansas or Mid MO that would be interested also.

Hey Patrick,

It's good to hear you're wanting to get started. You're welcome anytime up here in St. Louis, though I agree it's quite a drive from where you are. There's also Justin Moorman over in Sikeston, but I'm don't personally know of anyone closer than that, sorry.
