New and looking for local members

Postby Dan Urbach » Sat May 29, 2004 12:05 pm

Hello, I kind of hate to make a post this early in my studies, but as I have not decided yet on indavidual membership or if we should apply for a study group, this is the only way I know to make "contact" I am located in interior Alaska ( fairbanks ) and was wondering if there were any fellow enthusiasts close by that might be able to help me out. Thank you all for the help you have been so far, I have read this site and the forums repeatedly for the last couple of weeks. Great Place !
Thanks

yow! enthusiasts are popping up all over the place! maybe we'll get some more in north virginia/dc

welcome aboard. if you ever travel down to the lower 48, be sure to ask around. you never know who from ARMA could be near where you're going. i was able to work meeting some other members into my travel plans, it was well worth it.

Alaska?

That's so cool (pun intended)

I think it would be neat to have a study group in Alaska. I doubt there's any other members up there but it has to start some where.

Good luck

Actually I have a brother in-law and one other guy from work and we are talking about starting a study group, the only reason not too is we are ALL rank newbie beginers and dont have the benefit of being taught by someone that knows something. I would not mind leading a study group .. but I am not sure I want people being " refered" to me as that ( at least in my mind ) infers that I know something. Whats the feelings of those of you that have started study groups ? Should I just go ahead ... or wait for a year until I have had a chance to maybe attend a training class ?

Also I saw in the " minutes" of the international event that there was at least one atendee from Alaska.. though Alaska is rather large ( and has relatively few roads) so even if there are a few people from here they could be as far away as 1000 miles ( one way) and they may or may not be on the road system. If anyone can contact the "Alaskan" and have him contact me I would love to hear from him/her ( them )

Thanks again

Jim Truesdell is in Alaska. I'll point him to this thread but I'm not sure how close he'll be...Alaska is a rather big place

Remember that EVERYBODY starts out knowing nothing, and that not everyone is fortunate enough to be taught by others. Most of my knowledge was earned on my own, and only later refined by contact with other ARMA members. With others, you can pick this stuff up rather quickly. You can all learn from each other. Just grab a waster and a manual and go, man!

ARMA member Jim Truesdell lives in Alaska, but I believe he is in Anchorage. Haven't heard much from him lately, Jim...are you still out there?

Contrary to popular belief, I am still alive. Haven't touched the sword in a while. Been busy, and lost the hangar to practice in during bad weather.

It's only a 9 hour drive to Fairbanks. I just happen to be going there on Wednesday. Am I still the only member in Alaska?

Gary, I am deeply hurt that you forgot me so quickly.

Hi Jim!

You know I actually grew up in Alaska, I lived in Fairbanks (went to U of A for a while) and in a little town (village really) called Anderson (not named after my family BTW). I hope to get a chance to train with you again some time, maybe the next International Gathering?

I will be there, provided we get enough of a heads up so I can get leave. Now that I'm back on the road, I just can't take off whenever.

The International Gathering was a great time. I am really glad I went.

Jim

I just found this place and have just recently sent in my aplication for membership, but would be more than happy to meet fellow fans of the blade. Happily living near downtown Fairbanks and am very mobile. I do not have a practice blade yet, but I am working on that.

Welcome Kevin and good luck on your pending membership!

ARMA Member Michael Lockery is in the Fairbanks area. I have sent him a message letting him know about your post here. He will likely contact you shortly.
