New guy in Nebraska

Postby Todd Trausch » Fri Feb 24, 2012 10:14 am

Hi all. I just watched the documentary Reclaiming the Blade last night which led me here :D . I have always been interested in fencing and the renaissance but never got into the actual sport. I've always liked swords and learning what I can about them and their use. I do appreciate what you are doing here and the philosophy behind it. Unfortunately it doesn't look like you have any ARMA members in my neck of the woods. I have found a group named the Nebraska Swordfigher's guild but I think the time that they meet won't work out very well for me.

To say I am green might be an understatement. The only martial arts training I have had was some Taekwondo when I was 15/16. So here I am ready to absorb some knowledge from you all. Any advice on some work I can do on my own would be most appreciated.

Looks like you're probably about equidistant from our guys in either Denver or Iowa Quad Cities. Too far to practice regularly with them, but if you could visit with either group they can do a lot to help you get started and learn to train on your own until you can recruit partners and build your own group. There are a lot of threads on this forum started by solo folks like you that are packed with good advice, so take some time to do some searching and don't be afraid to contact people on our Practice Partners list or ask questions here if you can't find answers. Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the response Stacy. I've been poking around the site and forums. Tons of info here to sort through. If I ever have a reason to be in either Denver (more likely) or the Quad Cities I will see if I can meet up with the groups there. I didn't see any practice partners listed for Denver though on the site.

I might be able to get a couple people here interested and I do plan on checking out the Nebraska Swordfighter's guild soon.

We have a member in Omaha. I met him at the MTP this last weekend , I'm bad with names but I'm sure it was Scott (forgot his last name). Heck of a nice guy and seemed pretty on top of everything . Hopefully we can get you in contact with him.

Look up Sal Bertucci on here for the Denver area; he and Andrew Weems both moved up there from Texas recently but I don't think they have enough people for a formal group yet.

I did find a couple guys to work out with here in NE. They are about an hour away from me but that is better than the drive to Denver.
