Is this information correct?

Postby coryzamparelli » Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:47 pm

SO I was looking for sword and shield techniques and I found this PDF

http://ordoprocinctus.com/tutorials/swo ... shield.pdf

It is greatly detailed and has good information but my issue is that this seems too simple to be correct. So is this good information to go off of?

I'm not sure about the text without digging out my old copy, but the illustrations on that page are lifted directly from John Clements' 1998 book Medieval Swordsmanship, and I don't see any credit given. The sword and shield material in that book has held up better than the longsword stuff over time and is pretty useful, but it still needs some updating in the context of newer findings.

@Stacy. Ahh okay, perfect! I think once I get some money I should buy that book, as well as many others. Also I'm glad that the information is useful because that was my biggest interest when it comes to HEMA. I've always wanted to learn Sword and Shield, so to know that this PDF has some good information is a definite plus. Thank you!!

@John. Hmm, That's weird. It seemed to be working. Let me see if I can find a working link.

It seems to be working now. Odd that it did not work this morning.

Thanks!

Yeah, I just pulled out my copy of Medieval Swordsmanship and this is about 90% word for word from John Clements book. This guy take a sentence here and there and strings them together in a way difference than Clements book, but most of the words are the same. He does other things like change the guard name from "back" to "tail" and a few other small things. But it's pretty much a blatant copy.
