New publication: AHA German Longsword Study Guide

Postby KeithFarrell » Fri Aug 02, 2013 1:55 pm

The Academy of Historical Arts is pleased to announce that, in the very near future, our first proper publication will become available. We are setting up a new division of our organisation, called Fallen Rook Publishing, to handle the publishing activities that we believe will happen with increasing frequency over the next few years.

This book has been written by Keith Farrell and Alex Bourdas, compiling their research into the subject of the Liechtenauer tradition (and its outliers) from the past three years. It will not be groundbreaking new research for people who already know the sources by heart, but will be an excellent study guide for people who have learned the system from their instructor and who would like to put their knowledge into the context of the historical sources. Students with advanced skill sets and assistant instructors will find this book particularly valuable.

The intention is to have the book in print before FightCamp (16th-18th August). It will be sold through Corsair's Wares and will cost around £15 for the paperback version and £10 for the eBook download that will be available towards the end of the moment. Proceeds from the book will go towards buying in video filming equipment so that we can begin to produce instructional DVDs as well.

The book will also be available in North America through the Corsair's Wares US website. It will probably cost $25 for the paperback copy and $16 for the eBook, and will probably be available a little bit later in the month.

This is a very exciting time for the Academy, and for those involved in the project!

Great news! The proof copy of the new German Longsword Study Guide has reached us, and it looks very good indeed. There are a couple of minor issues to clean up ready for the final copy, but these are just very minor issues.

I'm very happy with how it has all turned out :)

The proof copy will be coming with us to FightCamp at the weekend, and anyone who would like to have a look at it will be able to find it at the Corsair's Wares stall. We will be taking orders for the book from anyone who would like to buy one, and the online listing will be sorted on the Corsair's Wares website as soon as possible.

Great news, we just received our first batch of ISBNs from the UK ISBN agency! This means that we can go ahead and make the final version of the AHA German Longsword Study Guide today, and hopefully the first batch of books will be with us at some point next week.

If you would like to place an order for the book, then please feel free to purchase it through Corsair's Wares at the link below, or get in touch with me directly if you would like to place an order for several copies.

We had various different e-book formats on offer, and most of the time the different formats worked properly on difference devices. A few times, however, there were issues where a format did not display properly, so we looked into the problem to see what could be done to improve our service.

After spending some time looking at the issue and thinking about how best to resolve the problem, we have decided that our best option is just to offer the pdf version and to let people make whatever conversions to different formats that they would like to make.We just do not have the time to spend working on additional formats, so we will prioritise the pdf version. This will have the side effect of making it cheaper to have as many different formats as you like, and you can use whatever conversion application you like to generate the file.

In the UK and Europe, paperback and electronic copies of the book can be purchased here: http://www.corsairs-wares.com/martial-arts/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&keyword=study+guide

In the USA, paperback and electronic copies can be purchased on the US version of our site here: http://www.corsairs-wares.com/us/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&keyword=study+guide
