Codex Guelf Translation Now Available!

Postby Webmaster » Tue Oct 29, 2013 11:09 am

ARMA is pleased to announce that the first ever English translation of the 1591 fencing manual Codex Guelf 83.4.Aug.8° is now available on our public manuals page:

Codex Guelf Translation (PDF)

The full transcription and translation was done by ARMA scholar David Kite, and full color plates are included. A high resolution copy of the original scans is also available. David has done excellent work with a very difficult to read script, uncovering such exciting discoveries as a section on how to defend yourself from a dagger attack while sitting at a table!

In addition, the manuals page itself has been redesigned, and we have also added a copy of Reinier van Noort's translation of Johannes Georges Bruchius' On the Single Rapier which has been reworked by ARMA Houston member Brian Kirk to bring the image placement more in line with the text and make the manual more user friendly.

We thank our members for their hard and dedicated work on these projects and hope these works will prove valuable to the greater historical fencing community.
