This article does hit the mark. Training with intent is the only thing I know of that will actually allow the student to "KNOW" that what he is learning will actually work in adversarial combat. To train without intent as a rule leaves the student with a false notion of proper application and robs him of the self-assuredness and confidence in his training that is so vital to martial success. How does he know that it will work at full speed and how does he understand the proper mechanics at speed(which certainly differ from artificially timed movements) if he's not worked at speed before as a rule? It's not unlike learning to drive by tooling around in a childs pedal-car.
