Cutting Material

I was going to make some cutting targets and i wanted to make them as realisic as possible. What do people use at the core to simulate bone? A thin dowel? and what about the surrounding material, what is a good representation of flesh or padding?

Lindholm offers an excellent design for what you want in his "Sigmund Ringeck's...Longsword" book. It is too elaborate for me to detail off-hand here -- but if you can get a hold of it, or someone else can detail it (sorry, I am pressed for time as usual!), then hopefully it would serve your need.
