Moderators- Sword Sale

Postby Craig Peters » Fri Feb 20, 2004 12:05 pm

John, Stacy Belinda, Gene or Shane,

I received a private message from a person who is trying to sell a sword. It appears that this message was not sent to one person, but to many. Is the soliciting of items for sale via Private Message allowed? Personally, I feel that this does not belong in the ARMA forum and should be done elsewhere. What is the rule, if any, regarding this incident? For interest's sake, here's the message:

"I have a genuine XVIII century Japanese sword for sale. I could sell it for the fee of $400. I have all the legal papers. If anyone is interested in my offer, please contact me.

Kind regards,
Pawel Tomasz Nowak
Tomasnowak@hotmail.com"

Why in the hell would I want a Japanese sword anyways? <img src="/forum/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />

Craig

This guy is also posting on other forums with the same info regarding the sale of this sword. I read that it may also be a scam.

I agree that it isn't really appropriate for this forum. It was posted here this morning, but it looks like somebody already beat me to deleting it. I'll have to see about adding that to our forum rules this weekend. I'm not saying we can't discuss selling items here on occasion, but this isn't the want ads or a bulletin board and shouldn't be used as such.

I agree that this is not the proper forum.

In any case, someone wants to sell an authentic XVIII century Japanese sword for $400?

Yeah...I've got some property on Mars and a swamp in Florida I'd like to dump also....

It probably comes with a deed to some lovely oceanfront prop. in Oklahoma or thereabouts... I don't think I would buy a sword sight-unseen no matter what. I was concerned even for my brother while we were in Toledo when he bought a sword and was having them ship it home. It finally arrived several months later - apparently the same one. The next time I am in Spain (or anywhere else) and buying something to be shipped after I leave the store, I am taking a digital image of it to verify when the goods arrive just to make sure. Not to assume all merchants are out to scam, but in that case 'bait and switch' is easy enough to pull off. Maybe the proffered XVIII sword is authentic...an authentic forgery...?
