Uppsala Seminar - Codex Wallerstein

Postby Bart Walczak » Mon May 10, 2004 6:41 pm

I just got back, so just a short note:

I enjoyed being in Sweden a lot. The class was very obedient, very quick to pick up new things and very tolerant for my sometimes not so good performance.

I would like to thank Bjorn for hosting me, and for making this seminar happen, and all other guys from ARMA Sweden that I met for the excellent atmosphere during the event.

Best regards
Bart

I truly enjoyed your seminar Bart. It was very, very interesting and I think I picked up a lot. I've long desired to look take a closer look at the techniques and weapons featured on Codex Wallerstein and I have to say that I'm very impressed and not the leat bit dissappointed (in the Wallerstein fencing techniques). This seminar have given us a lot of new material to work with and you really impressed and inspired me as well as the students I brought along with me. What was especially appealing from the Wallerstein longsword was how winden there differed from say for instance winden in Ringeck. Fascinating stuff. It's even given me some insights in how the (higher) schielhau works.

We are really looking forward to meeting you again in the future.

And Bart.... RONDELL RONDELL RONDELL! No, seriously though, you might be on to something there. You have certainly aroused my interest in looking into the matter some more. And the daggers being basilards certainly makes a lot of the techniques that more vicious.

Best regards,

Thanks Joachim.

I forgot to add - we had Peter Johnson coming to the seminar and showing us some of his blades. Awesome. Plus we had an opportunity to discuss several things with him during lunch.

Bart!

I think i speak for all of us when i say that the seminar was great. I had a really great time. Bart took his time to make sure that we all understood his instructions. He was well prepared and everything runned smoothly. And i am glad that we succeded to go through the whole manual Codex Wallerstein. And i agree with what Joakim wrote, the winden technics in Codex Wallerstein was an eye-opener for alot of us that have worked with Ringeck. The Messer part and the Dagger part was great fun. I will definitly continue training the Messer from now on. Peter Johnsson was helding a lecture on day 1, always inspiering. And we got to see and wield his new blades. Nice, very nice.

On Monday some of us went to the Skokloster castle to check out the weapon chambers and the weapon chamber that is not usually viewed to visitors (except for Peter Johnsson offcourse ;-) ). We saw some nice things, Longswords, Twohanders, Rapiers, Daggers, Staffweapons, Twohanded Rapiers, Executioners swords, Smallswords, Guns, Bows etc. And yes, the unicorn horn.

How about those Two handers, Joakim? are you also having them in your dreams?

I would like to thank Bart for visiting us and giving us his interpretation of Codex Wallerstein. Two days of good and intresting training. I would also like to thank Peter Johnsson who managed to participate at the seminar and for bringing all the blades with him. Everybody who attended the seminar.

Thanks and see you again.

The twohanders? Absolutely! They haunt me constantly! I would have loved to handle at least one of them, even if I just would have gotten to weigh them in my hands. I would love to see how the blades of one of them bad boys behaved. The cuts and nicks in the edges (as well as the broken side-ring) was really intriguing too. These have been used for real. Probably, IMHO, in a very desperate situation.

And once again I would like to thank Bart for his excellent seminar. Truly inspiring. I will also continue working with the messer.

I know there was quite a lot of pics taken. Hopefully they will surface within time. Hmm... perhaps some kind of article or report on the event would be in order too. Anyone feeling inclined to pen the thing?
