I echo the Joe's sentiments in thanking Jacob Norwood for coming up to Columbus to put us through the paces. It was a small seminar, but this made for some great individual attention from Jake and his experience will prove to be invaluable as ARMA-Columbus and the Associate Members who attended move on with their training.

Saturday was the NTP 1.0 seminar - all the basics and some great drills that have been devised to help develop skill at the basics. We ended with some great free-sparring sessions with padded weapons of various types - everyone got to try out a little of everything. Bill Welch's paddeds are truly the real deal - great weight and balance!

Sunday was an "open day" in which Jake let us work on whatever we wanted. He took us through a workout that he uses to build conditioned muscle used in our art, and that was definitely an eye-opener. We also worked with the basics of dagger and ringen. Jake explained and demonstrated how all the principles of longsword could be transferred quite easily to ringen and dagger work, and we ended that portion doing some free-sparring exercises with dagger.

We then worked on the 10 ARMA cutting exercises, and Jake showed how they can be used to work into a florysh-type exercise and also how they can be applied in waster free-play and sparring. Some light test-cutting took place after lunch, leaving the area looking like Mail Call had just been filmed there with all the watermelons laying around.

Last we worked on the basics of the Meisterhau, with Jake showing how the proper footwork in conjunction with the blade work can make all the difference.

A good experience was had by everyone there, for which I'd like to thank:

- Jake, for travelling up to Columbus and putting us through the paces.
- Jaron Bernstein, for being the organizer of the event and getting us all together.
- Jeff McCarl, for being the host and provider of PLENTY of Gatorade and water!
- Jeff G, David, Aaron, Matt, Sean, Joe, and Charles for joining us and making this such a great weekend.

Hello all
Well the NTP 1.0 with Jake was fantastic anyone one who can should get Jake to come out and do it. I am suffering from information over load i think at this point it will take me a few day's to process everything we went over. It is a real eye opener to what you need to do to get in shape to fight with a sword. This event has totaly made me rethink how i train and what i need to be doing.

Jake thank's for sharing your knowledge with us, and thank's to those who attended from out of state for attending it realy did help to make this event a success.

It was an awesome workshop. Definitely worth a repeat performance. Thanks to everyone involved.

On a side note: Looking at the photo of Jaron cutting the watermelon; is my Lutel flexing as much as it looks like it is, or is that just a trick of the lighting and background?

I noticed that too, David. Looks like a pretty good flex there. Maybe we need to video tape some test-cutting next time we get together and check it out in slow motion or something.

I've seen a bunch of pictures and videos of test cutting with blade flex in them. Don't know if it indicates anything in particular, but it happens.

It was so much fun working with you guys. There's the beginnings of a really great group out there. Also, honorable mention goes to Matt Web and Aaron (forgot last name...) from Wisconson, who showed a lot of promise as potential Arma members.

I had a great time and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I was unable to participate in the seminar (something to do w/ being 5 months pregnant), but I enjoyed listening in when I was there.
Thank You Jake for coming up and proviing so much information. I'm sure Jamie will pass it on once I can easily swing a waster again.

Regarding the flex in the blade.. could be, but looking at all the pictures it looks like the camera has a slight fisheye problem, so the flex may be exagerated. But it definately looks like there would still be flex if the fish-eye were fixed. Just not as much maybe.

That's a good possibility, Roger. The camera in question is from a Sony Clie, not a proper digital camera. Still, it's worth investigating, I think.
